Congratulations on an exellent site, I used to run reguarly into
Ringsend Dock in the late 70s and early 80s and I was looking within
the site of a mention of Ringsend Docks as in its day it was a very
busy Dock for small coasters that ran to the glass works and bolands
mill. well done Peter...

I am very much a retired holiday-maker and recently booked a
cruise to Santander on the PontAven. I am due to go soon and in my
research for the trip, came across the John Huxton (I hope I have
remembered the name correctly) report on his similar trip last year.
I have printed the text and am sure it will be invaluable with so
much information provided. I must say I am even more excited about
the two day trip I am embarking! on in June. Thank you John for such
a full and detailed account of your adventure.

caught on bulbous bow of Atlantic Cartier appearing on site, but an
interesting albeit sad story all the same,so glad they were used. As
an ex Irish Sea worker, glad to be able to look up information on my
old companies and the vessels worked, and of whats happening lately.

Uncle, after whom I was named, who may have been on the SS Jose De

another of your visitors, I also would like to hear from anyone

good day. recently i was on board of the Irish vessel Clontarf, and i
learned that this compagny did also the management of my former(as captain)
vessel. At present it is named Clonmore. I was suprised to find a few good
picture on your site. Hopefully she will call Rotterdam more often since i
'am a nautical pilot at te rotterdam region now for three years. By the way
the former name of the Clonmore was 'Banjaard' and not 'Banjadd'as you
stated on your site. All the best with your site and i hope to visit it more
often. Good luck. Reinier Verschoor

Have there been any announcements regarding Norse Merchant Ferries
future, especially on the Dudlin route? This was undoubtedly the best Irish
Sea crossing I have encountered in 42 years of private travel, if a little
expensive. The P and O passenger service from Seaforth is appalling and no
alternative at all. Equally I have not seen any mention of the service
cutbacks in the local media. Quite a contrast to when 12 Quays was opened. I
wonder why?

Good Website, but I find the detail in the voyage reports a little
ridiculus, EG " left 11 minutes behind scedule" and "Passesd the Baily
at16.03".Completly irrelevant. I think your audience may find the actual
information on the ship more interesting as oppossed to unknown ships that
are noticed a considerable distance away...

Master Adsteam Mersey Tug Trafalgar Thanks for publishing the great
photographs of the tugs including the Trafalgar towing the Princess landing

haulage company on seaforth dock estate and remember giving a lift to a
photographer for your website but can remember his name !!wanted to become
an oow deck but P&O said no too old!! i was 25 at the time! oh well. well
done on your excellent website as its nice to see whats going on and (sort

What a superb site! Came across it while looking for info on a passing
ship on north coast of Anglesey. I wish I had found this earlier but now
that I have I will be in and out checking up on passing vessels. An
additional bonus is the advice on maritime radio, I will now be looking for
a scanner to enhance my enjoyment of this new-found hobby, I will also need
a nice anorak !!

I found this fantastic site by logging on to Seascapes a radio programme
on RTE. It is now in my Favourites for regular visits. I was delighted to
see photos of ships in Cork Harbour I have intended for years to photograph.
In Ireland we are a small group and should use the site to get in contact.

Great Site. Ideal for keeping upto speed on the Lady of Mann, which I
have just observed docking at Heysham during the TT runs. She looked
stunning as she docked at 22:30 well illuminated with both masthead lights
and running lights spotted well out to sea. A true classic, a pleasure to
admire in this modern age were ships these days are bordering on the ugly
side! (09/06/2024)

Does anyone know why the Tug boat compay J H Lamey Towing ceased trading.
my decd father used to tell me a story that we were distantly related to the
owners, and in failed following an accident with involving a tug and dock
get that let all the water out of the docks at low tide causing serious
damage to a number of ships. ?????

I think your site is great, due to the fact of the pictures of Norse
Merhchant Ferries. I espeically enjoy the pictures of Lagan Viking and
Mersey Viking. This is because I travel on them I least once a year. I would
also like to seen away more pictures of these ships at the Twelve Quays,

What an interesting site! As an ex-mariner that has considerable
knowledge of the Irish Sea ( I joined my first ship, the M.V. Citrine in the
Pigeon House Dock at aged 16 in 1953, and ran coal from Garston and
Whitehaven to the power station for a couple of years) and I find the site
meets the requirements of nostalgics like myself.

Splendid web site. On a visit to liverpool I saw the tanker Channel
Dragon and as always I was over awed by her physical size and majesty. Not
the prettiest of ships I dare say, but there's no denying she's very
definately a mans man ship. My researching her, drew me to this site. Keep
up the good work. H.C.Spreckley, OffshoreYachtSkipper.

For a Wavertree-Crosby ex-pat, your site looks just fine from here in
Caracas. My purposes are more nostalgic than professional but I do have a
book, being the diary of Robert Ker Porter, British plenipotentiary here
from 1825 to 1842. He spent half his time sending and receiving dispatches
that arrived on paque-boats, '....that sailed from Liverpool', time and
again. That was just after the 1824 régime change, Bolivar and so on.
Liverpool has its timelessness and the M&ISS would be a part of its
chronicling. A very good part, I felt. Best An' All!

I like your blurb on the Star of India (ex Euturpe), few minor
corrections, she is always ready to sail in 90 days. She sails regularily, 3
times in 2002, twice scheduled in 2003 (November for her 140th). She began
her new career with an inagural sail in 1976 (not 1973) and she is at the
San Diego Maritime Museum (not the World Maritime Museum) She has a full
sail and maintenance crew who put in over 17,000 hours a year on her. I am
glad to say is in excellent shape. Visitors always welcome at the San DIego
Maritime Museum, home to one of the finest collections of historic vessels
in the world (all operating)(http://www.sdmaritime.com/index.asp

My father was a Captain for Elder Dempster Shipping Line and I have very
fond memories, as a young lad, of going down to the docks to spend time
onboard; wandering around the ship, eating with the crew and soaking up the
sights and smells. This was in the 60's and 70's. Ships he was master of
included several of the F-class and O-class ships amongst many others. He
finished his career as master of a couple of the A-class passenger ships, I
think the Apapa and the Aureol from a distant memory. This website brought
lots of memories flooding back to me. Thank you.

Isaiah Weaver of Ireland is in our family tree. He married Isabel Herron
- daughter of a shipping company owner. In the 1880 census they were living
in or near Liverpool. Since my husband loves sailing and boats in general, I
would love to have a picture of any of the ships that Isaiah, a merchant
mariner, owned - or that were owned by his father-in-law. I believe the
company was called, John Herron and Company. I am descended from Hans Weaver
of Ireland who trekked hundreds of miles with a wife and children to settle
here in Oregon in 1853. We are also celebrating that trip this summer (150
years) and the picture would be wonderful to show to the relatives. Thank
you, Shirley Weaver Sipler Salem, Oregon USA

Visited site looking for up to date map of the dock area, and also hoping
to find a web cam of the dock area - someone should install one. Pity about
Blue Water Marine going into Administration - should not have happened.
(Blue Water owned the Merchant Boats sailing from the new terminal at 12
Quays, and previously from Brocklebank Dock) i thought Stena, Irish Ferries
or P & O would grab the ships and terminal (Beautiful Terminal) but if what
is said about directional signs is right might be best to sort that
first??!! Good Site

We had the pleasure of travelling with John Luxton on Saturday 15 March
03, on a SeaCat to Dublin. We were due to arrive back in Liverpool at 19:30,
however, due to technical problems, we were routed back via Holyhead on a
Stena Line Ferry, eventually arriving back in Liverpool by coach at 03:20
next day! A day trip, turned adventure, finally becomming an epic!!

wonder why?

I often wonder if all the troubles with Norse Merchant Ferries are
inter-connected in some way? For me personally, I used to use the
Liverpool-Dublin service most weekends. Not anymore. I haven't used the
service since it transferred to Twelve Quays. And one of the things I've
noticed (ironically, driving back from Holyhead ferry port usually!!!) is
the lack of directional information on the M53 for the new terminal. A
simple way to loose traffic perhaps? Then there's the transfer of "Dawn
Merchant" to Norfolk Line, practically halving the number of sailings
between Dublin and Liverpool each week. With the IOM Seacat on its Winter
holidays also, P&O must be laughing all the way to the bank. I only started
using the P&O Liverpool-Dublin service a few months ago, and I kick myself
why I didn't before. Cabin and your food, can't go wrong!!!! If Norse
Merchant are forced to pull the plug on their services from Liverpool,
there's a golden opportunity for someone else to take over. Irish Ferries or
Stena Line maybe????
