Proposed Closure of Seacombe Promenade to Vehicles

Photographs  John H. Luxton 2007

Have you ever parked on Seacombe Promenade to take ship photographs and enjoy the view across the Mersey? Soon the you will not be able to enjoy this harmless pleasure.

Why? - Because Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council does not want you to!

The small notice tied to a pole outside the Seacombe Ferry Terminal will have gone unnoticed by many - and most will not realise what is about to happen before the promenade is closed to vehicles.

This is a very mean spirited action by Wirral Council - many people choose to park here and it is one of the very few places overlooking the Mersey where one can sit in you car and enjoy uninterrupted views across the river.

The decision to ban vehicle access is somewhat mystifying, is not as though there is a problem with heavy traffic. The sign says that a statement  of the council's reasons for making the order can be inspected at the Town Hall.

One can only assume that the reason is only very pathetic as this section of the promenade is a cul-de-sac as vehicles are only allowed to drive to a point just beyond the Mersey Tunnel Ventilation Station, therefore, the area does not see heavy traffic anyway.

I would urge anyone who enjoys parking in this area writes with their objections to
