Farewell to Our Lady So Strong and So Fair

Photographs © Philip Parker & Ian Collard 2005

For the last time the LADY OF MANN renamed PANAGIA SOUMELA and flying the Greek flag departs from Langton Lock, and heads away from the Mersey forever.

One must question why those wishing to travel to Douglas must now face the prospect of an unreliable winter fast craft service with regular disruption and diversions via Heysham? Is this called progress? The LADY has now gone forever and her passing will leave a vacuum which will be hard to fill. However, she will be fondly remembered by many, for years to come, as the very last of a long line of traditional steam packet ships.
