Cammell Laird 1203 - General San Martin

With thanks to Alison Routledge

A colleague showed me an artefact which I immediately knew would be of great interest to visitors to the Irish Sea Shipping site - A Cammell Laird builder's plate for ship #1203.

The builder's plate from Cammell Laird #1203 that had been bought by her husband in Argentina.

The General San Martin was the first of four similar tankers built by the Birkenhead yard #1204 - General Pueyrredon, #1205 - Presidente Peron and #1206 Eva Peron. General San Martin took its name from the "Liberator of Argentina" - To access short biography of the real General

Yard Number 1203 was built for the Argentine Government owned Yacimientos Petroliforos Fiscales of Argentina. Her keel was laid at Birkenhead on June 27, 2024 with her launch taking place on September 14, 1950. Trials took place on January 18, 1951. The ship being handed over to her owners on January 20, 1951.
