Notes for Contributors

It would be helpful if those submitting material could bear in mind the following points.

There can be some flexibility though the items in red are particularly important.

  • All images should be submitted in the .JPG image format.

  • Please try to ensure reasonable exposure and sharpness before submission, though ISS can undertake some image enhancement, this can be time consuming.

  • The minimum image size submitted should is 640 x 480.

  • No photographs from camera-phones please - quality and definition is usually lacking.

  • There is now no maximum size for submissions, and images larger than 640 x 480 are preferred as it allows for a certain amount of cropping and adjustment to ensure good presentation.

  • When sending images by email attachment - please send no more than SIX images per email.

  • Thumbnails are not required - the web site software creates these automatically.

  • Where possible please supply basic information: Date, Location, Time (if possible) and any other relevant notes in the email or as an attached text file.

  • Large text files should, where possible, be sent in MS Word '.doc' format though most other standard formats are usually acceptable. Material can also be sent in Adobe PDF format.

  • Photographs will be credited to the sender and where time allows the individual images will be stamped with your © Copyright details as part of the preparation of the pages unless you have already done this prior to submission.

  • All images remain the copyright of the sender.

  • Any requests by third parties for reproduction rights made to Irish Sea Shipping will be forwarded to the copyright holder to enable them to deal directly with the request.

  • Where possible images and other submissions will be posted within ten days of submission. However, some material may be held on file for future use. Other material may be placed on file if exposure, sharpness etc is beyond straightforward correction.

  • Where two or more submissions are received of the same event, images from more than one contributor may be used in the feature. Alternatively material may be posted on a first submitted basis. This will likely occur when material is submitted after a gallery page has been prepared, but not yet uploaded.

If you have any queries please email [email protected]

Thank you for taking the time to read these notes.

They are intended to make the preparation of updates for the web site as time efficient as possible.
